2014

Monday 6th January 2014

Today we developed and worked on workshops for auditions this was by the style of "commercial" . The dance routine was to Little Mix "Hey how you doing" this was a quick routine and had contrasting dynamics and different levels.

                                                                                                                More technique used
                                  Many styles of commercial such as ;
hip hop, jazz  manly covers all styles
Seen on TV ( on screen)
                                                                                                                  music channels/films
                                                                        COMMERCIAL
                              Comes from famous people
                                  e.g Micheal Jackson

Simple moves that are more powerful
                                                                            then others, most are lyrical

The routine was hard at some points when there was different timing and you had to listen to the music and tempo. This was hard as there was other people in front of me rushing and it sometimes put me off.
Kat treated it like a audition and this was by going through the routine quickly as like the choreographer would in a audition. There were 3 rounds for the workshop audition this gave us a idea of what would happen in a audition and help us with up coming audition to things. There was alot of contrasting dynamics and this is something I'd like to put into my routines I make up. We then danced the routine over so it was stuck into our heads, I went wrong at some points and this was due to me not being that focused. We got the 2nd round and Kat took some people out and I was still standing, we then got to the final round and Kat picked me as she said I had the fluidity that was needed in the routine, this was a great start to the new year as it brought up my confidence.

Tuesday 7th January 2014

Today was Jazz. We worked on technique and flexibility during this lesson, my flexibility has improved a lot and this is due to me stretching at home and pushing myself with the stretches in class. I need to work on my flexibility on my left leg when kicking but this is due to a weakness as I was only told at my dance school to kick with my good leg and not to improve on my bad leg by this I need to do leg stretches and over splits.
We did technique across the class room, my leaps have improved this is by evolution and not having my left leg at the back as bent as what it used to be, I also need to work on my left side on leaps as they are very weak. Chloe then showed us what a layout was , I had done this before but this was by kicking before doing the layout. This was good for control of the leg and good for balance.

Thursday 8th January 2014

Today we recapped over what structures and devices were ;

         Structures;

  • Conveys a meaning provides foundation of choreography
  • Binary - A,B
  • Ternary - A,B,C
  • Narrative - telling a story
  • Rondo - ABACBDABC

          Devices

  •  - Element witch we create choreography with;
  • Canon
  • Unison
  • Contrast
  • Contact
  • Symmetry
  • Floor patterns
  • Movement components
  • Motif
  • Motif development
  • Repetition
  • Climax
  • Dynamics
  • Logical Sequencing

We was told that our show stimuli would be Elements for the show case in June,  we then worked in groups to create a freeze frame responding to the stimuli we had a photo of a man and a women in Tango freezes. My group discussed that this responded to "elements" this was by Tango being fiery and powerful. We created a freeze frame from the picture that was giving to us by copying the picture on the paper. We then come up with a story of being in a competition and wanting to win against everyone else this also gave the idea of powerful and sharpness.

Today we got given our groups that we would be working with this week,we was given a picture to respond to the stimuli of Elements (AIR) . We was given the music we would be dancing to this was "Breezeblocks" by Alt J" this sound reminds me of slow stained movements. We then looked at the picture this picture was 2 women on ropes in the air and 3 men on there knees with there arms out. We started of with freeze frame and used the picture to help us with the freeze frame by taking the idea of the 3 men on there knees to create  good levels.

Today Kat told me my grades for the show and what I needed to improve on, I am really happy with my grades as I have improved with a lot of my technique this year and have pushed myself to do my best at everything when I put my mind to it. I had been told that I have improved on holding myself up right and on my core work as you can see this when I am dancing but I need to work on my arm lines.

Today for the group piece we thought of how the wind moves bushes and how the wind moves rubbish, we thought of the idea of wind pushing a bush by moving backwards and forwards and being pushed in partners. Also, we thought of fish roll for rubbish as it is getting dragged along the street.

Today we went over the group piece to recap what we had done and what needed to be changed. We also, cleaned the choreography up and changed some of the levels in the dance.

Today we showed our group dances that was set for assessment week, Kat was impressed with everyones group pieces. We gave feedback on what our group was good at and what we could of improve on next time. We thought that we worked well as a team bouncing eachothers ideas of one another and using them in the routine and also worked well with musicality, we could improve next time on a structure and the rehearsal time we put into the routine.

We continued with technique for Jazz, I find Jazz is one of my strongest styles and , I enjoy more of. I have felt that I have improved on holding my core and my armlines when doing kicks. We also did a Lyrical Jazz routine to Tracy Chapman "Fast Car" this is one of  my favourite songs. I really enjoyed this routine as I connected with the music and the feelings behind the song. The moves were short and sharp with contrasting dynamics. My strengths were movement memory and power. My weaknesses were sometimes rushing the movements and going to fast.

Duet for show

Monday 4th Novemeber (duet with Riley)

We came up with the idea of using the idea from the dance planner as having a basketball in the routine, we then made up a motif that would be developed throughout the dance. The style of dance. We have chosen is old skool hip hop this responses to the stuimuil "eras of dance"  .
We then worked out some floor patterns and transformations to make the routine more exciting to watch. We are using a beaty song "Fresh Prince Of Bel Air" as this was a very popular t.v program 1990's.

Tuesday 5th November

We developed our ideas and came up with more moves and created moves to add to our motif, the structure of dance we are working on is ABC natravtive telling a story.

choreography for show

Choreography for the show December 11th

We learnt the first section of the dance routine for the show in December, this was to the "Beatles Eneanor Rigby" the style of dance we are doing to this is breaking this is one of my weaker styles of street dance as i dont really do it that often, my weakness was zulu spin and cc as i need to put in more effort and alot more practise with breaking, breaking is more on the toes and down to the ground where i am used to being upwards.
I need to practise the zulu and cc by this i need to keep going over it step by step slowly then working to the speed i need to get it up to for the show piece.

Today in Jazz we learnt the other section for the show case this will be jazz,we are doing the routine to we will rock you musical lady gaga for decades of dance, 1950/60s musicals first came out.
The section is quit easy and the movements have to be sharp but to be danced like a robot as in we will rock you.
My strengths in is routine were movement memory
My weakness was timing, I need to listen to the words when dancing as the movements go with the words of the song.

Monday 4th November (duet with Riley)

We came up with the idea of using the idea from the dance planner as having a basketball in the routine, we then made up a motif that would be developed throughout the dance. The style of dance. We have chosen is old skool hip hop this responses to the stimulus "eras of dance"  .
We then worked out some floor patterns and transformations to make the routine more exciting to watch. We are using a beauty song "Fresh Prince Of Bel Air" as this was a very popular t.v program 1990's.

Group dance
Today we went over the breaking section and there was a new section added I need to practise the 6step by getting faster and being in time with the other people in the routine.
We also went over the "We Will Rock You, Radio Gaga" I also need to improve clapping and moving my hips at the same time.

Tuesday 5th November

Duet - We developed our ideas and came up with more moves and created moves to add to our motif, the structure of dance we are working on is ABC ternary narrative telling a story.

Rosia's group piece
We practised the Maculele routine, we all need to improve on movement memory and timing with eachother and the music. This dance style is new to me but I am always up for a challenge and willing to learn new things.

Wednesday 6th November

Duet- I came up with the idea of starting the routine of the duet by using basketballs without music to create a beat and coming onto the stage like we were in a basketball match. This came from the research I did for my dance planner were basketball was first played in 1891.

Monday 11th November

We went over the Urban routine for the show piece in December, we also learnt the locking section for the routine, locking isn't my ideal dance style but I'm starting to enjoy learning it as it is a funky style and I like funky movements, I also like the music that locking is performed to.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q9YWv2l0xmU
My strengths for today were remembering what to do(movement memory), also in the breaking section of the dance I think that my strength is the 6step.  My weakness is still the zulu and cc by improving this i just need to go over it step by step and not worrying if I am going wrong.
Duet- Today me and Riley showed our duet to the class we had feed back given to us about our duet saying we were responding to the stimuli but our routine wasn't to the standard Kat thought it would be, she thought we had more as we had a week to come up with ideas of the duet but this was due to Riley not attending many of the rehearsals.

Rosais's group piece Maculele
Today in class we went over the routine for the show as its in 3weeks time. I found out today that we need to work as a team and that if someone goes wrong respect and do not laugh at there mistakes.
My strengths for today was movement memory and listening to the tempo of the music were to come in at certain points and when the routine is about to finish. My weakness for this routine is co-co-co-ordinating my hips when moving my arms in circles by improving this I need to work on just going over one movement at a time.

14th October presentation

Today in Kats lesson we presented our health and safety presentations. I did my health and safety presentation with Opal this gave me more confidence to talk to a audience as I was with someone.
My strengths were protection of the voice and making my words clear and being well prepare and organised at what parts we were both going to say.
My weaknesses were making eye contact with the audience.
My improvements I need to make are being abit more confident when talking to a class and give more examples of "appropriate dance environment ".

Kat's Health and Safety

Health and Safety

Why is it important to warm up and cool down?
It is important to warm up to
  •  avoid injuries of the muscles and joints
  • support your balance
  • stretch your muscles
  • increased delivery of oxygen and nutrients to your muscles, prevents you from getting out of breath early or too easily
  • Prepares your heart from an increase in activity, preventing a rapid increase in blood pressure

Its important to cool down because it relaxes your muscles,
  •  prevents blood pooling, returning the blood back to the heart rather than allowing it to pool in the muscles that have been worked
  •  bringing the heart rate back down, gradually
  •  preventing fainting by ensuring that the brain continues to receive a sufficient supply of blood and oxygen
  •  reducing the blood lactic acid levels

Brief descripition of a warm up

Jog on the spot to get your cardo faster and to get your blood pumping around the body and to increase the body's temperature. Then stretch your neck out going side to side slowly 4 times (both side) the up and down (4times) the do a semi round of the head (4 times ) and then repeat on other side to reduce muscle stiffness. Then do specific stretches of the muscles that were being used during the exericse this would be legs go into a lounge and hold for 4 repeated on otherside, then stretch out the legs by going into 2nd and stretching over to one side then repeat it going into the middle aswell.

What sort of attitude should you have in rehearsal? towards other students/teachers?

The sort of attitude you should have in dance environment is
  • Being open minded
  • Respecting others
  • Willing to learn new routines
  • Work to the best of your ability
  • Have great attitude towards each other
  • Listening to others
  • create a character; shy,exctied etc
  • pay attention

what is an appropriate dance environment?
An appropriate dance environment needs

  • clear space
  • mirrors
  • no food / only water
  • temperature 18*-21*
  • ventilation
  • sprung floors
  • stereo
  • positive attitude
  • free from obstacles
  • spacial awareness

Balanced diet
Its important to have a balanced diet when you are a dancer because you want to be healthy.
Its important to have a balanced diet be and eat your five a day
you need

  • Porotien for muscle repair
  • Carbs for energy
  • Vitamins
  • minerals
  • Fat for sugar

Eating a wide variety of foods in the right proportions, and consuming the right amount of food and drink to achieve and maintain a healthy body weight.

  • Fruit and vegetables.
  • Starchy foods, such as bread, rice, potatoes and pasta. Choose wholegrain varieties whenever you can, or eat potatoes with their skin on for more fibre.
  • Meat, fish, eggs and beans.
  • Milk and dairy foods.
  • Foods containing fat and sugar.

Injury

Rest  help with the swelling to heal the injury

Ice to slow the blood down from the injury

Compression to stop the blood from flowing

Elevation  to stop the blood from inflammation
